We specialize in unique confidence-building obstacle course experiences for horse and rider of all levels. We value steady progression, good sportsmanship, and strong horse-rider partnerships. We offer several different ways to experience obstacles, from trail to arena, from easy to challenging, our obstacle courses allow riders to explore with their horses in an encouraging and supportive atmosphere. It’s all about building trust, testing skills, and having a great day at the ranch.
Obstacles Courses at Black Horse Ranch are thoughtfully designed and focused on horsemanship, partnership, and practical skill. Riders guide their horses through carefully constructed obstacles that test responsiveness, confidence, control, and communication. On-site camping is always available so you can make a weekend out of it, and make new friends while you’re at it!

How It Works
Courses change all the time
Some courses are in the arena, some are on the trail
Trail courses are built specifically for themed events. Themed courses stay up and in tact for 2 weeks after the event. After that, the course may still be up, but could be missing pieces or be partially taken down in prep for the next one. LEADING UP TO ANY EVENT, the trail course is closed. We like to keep things a surprise ;)
Each horse may compete once only on any given course.
If a horse is ridden by two people, or in two divisions… the FIRST ride counts as the competition ride.
Typically, ride times are assigned based on sign-ups, but this could vary per course
Please let us know if you have a time preference
Typically we offer same or next day practice time after the competition
Approximate practice start time will be shared closer to event day once competition timing is known
